The Chaffey College men's water polo team battled through four contests at the Mt. SAC Invitational, finishing 2-2 while generating offensive opportunities and steady goalkeeping. The Panthers earned wins over Rio Hondo College and Santa Monica College before dropping matchups to LA Valley College and Ventura College.
Chaffey opened the invitational with a strong 18-5 victory over Rio Hondo. Vincent Garibay led the team with five goals and three assists, while Evan Fleming added two goals and three assists. Wendell McIntosh contributed one goal and two assists, with additional scoring from Andrew Hinojosa, Jacob Morales, Andrew Perez, and Daniel Meza. Goalkeepers Nolan Hanson and Adam Kirkpatrick combined for 14 saves to control the cage.
In their second matchup, the Panthers outlasted Santa Monica 15-10 with a strong second-half surge. Parker Black recorded a career-high nine goals, while Garibay added a hat trick. Baron Gonzalez contributed with two goals and an assist, and Hinojosa scored once with two assists recorded. Fleming tallied two assists and Morales added an assist. Goalkeepers Hanson and Kirkpatrick combined for 16 saves to secure the win.
On Saturday, Chaffey ran into a tough LA Valley squad, falling 22-5. Garibay led the team with a hat trick and Black netted one goal, while Morales scored in the final frame. Gonzalez tallied two assists, and Kirkpatrick finished with four saves in the cage.
The Panthers closed the invitational with a 21-7 loss to Ventura. Garibay once again paced the offense with two goals, supported by scores from Black, Meza, Thomas Skaggs, Hinojosa, and Morales with one goal each. Kirkpatrick recorded eight saves against the Pirates' relentless attack.
The Panthers will now return to conference play, traveling to Cerritos College on Wednesday, September 24 at 3 p.m.
