Panthers Close Season with Win Over East Los Angeles, Finish Fifth at South Coast Championships
The Chaffey College women's water polo team capped off the 2025 season with a dominant 8-1 win over East Los Angeles College on Saturday morning at Cerritos College, securing fifth place at the South Coast Conference Championship (SCC) Tournament. The Panthers showcased defensive discipline, patient ball movement, and balanced scoring to close the season on a high note.
Chaffey opened the match with a quick start in the first quarter as Sarah Alexander put the Panthers on the board with a goal assisted by goalkeeper Savannah Shaw. East Los Angeles answered late to even the score at 1–1 by the end of the quarter.
The Panthers took control in the second quarter, breaking through with back-to-back goals to seize momentum. Kaylee Pfalmer converted off an assist from Alexander, and Ani Babayan followed with a strike set up by Pfalmer to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Chaffey extended its lead in the third quarter with two more power-play goals. Elise Camarena scored on a setup from Pfalmer, and Mikaela Hernandez added another off a pass from Alexander to push the advantage to 5-1 entering the fourth quarter.
The Panthers closed strong in the fourth, maintaining defensive pressure and controlling tempo throughout. Babayan notched her second goal of the match on a feed from Pfalmer, followed by Alexander scoring again from a pass by goalkeeper Annemarie Marcucci. Alyssa Garcia sealed the 8-1 victory with a goal assisted by Sarah Villa.
Alexander led the offense with two goals and two assists, while Pfalmer contributed three assists and a goal. Babayan scored twice, and Camarena, Hernandez, and Garcia each added one goal. Shaw and Marcucci combined for a shutout over the final three quarters, anchoring a defense that held East Los Angeles scoreless after the first quarter.
The Panthers finished the season with an overall record of 12-18 and a 5-5 record in the SCC.
