Panthers Dominate Lancers for First Conference Win
The Chaffey College women's water polo team turned in a commanding performance on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Pasadena City College 21-6 to earn their first South Coast Conference win of the season. The Panthers displayed sharp offensive execution, balanced scoring, and strong defensive organization from start to finish.
Chaffey came out firing in the opening frame, building a 5-0 lead before Pasadena found the back of the cage. Aubrey Castillo opened the scoring on a feed from Sarah Alexander, followed by back-to-back goals from Ani Babayan and Elise Camarena. Alyssa Garcia and Castillo also added goals as Chaffey controlled possession throughout the first period.
The Panthers extended their lead in the second period with five more goals. Camarena scored twice, once unassisted and once assisted by Mikaela Hernandez. Savannah Shaw and Sarah Villa each converted power play opportunities to make it 10-2 at halftime.
Chaffey continued its offensive surge in the third quarter, netting seven goals behind efficient ball movement and spacing. Camarena fueled the run with a pair of assists and two more goals, while Alexander, Hernandez, Sofia Padilla, and Babayan all contributed to the scoring effort.
The Panthers closed out the match with a disciplined fourth quarter, adding four final goals to seal the 21-6 win. Alexander, Villa, Hernandez, and Castillo each scored in the closing minutes as Chaffey maintained control from the frontcourt to the cage.
Camarena led the offense with a personal-best five goals and five assists, while Alexander tallied three goals and three assists. Hernandez added three goals and two assists, and Goalkeeper Shaw directed the defense from the cage with seven saves.
Chaffey is 1-4 in the South Coast Conference and will look to carry their momentum into their next matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The Panthers will travel to face East Los Angeles College at 3 p.m.
