Chaffey Falls Behind Early in Loss to Cerritos
The Chaffey College women's water polo team dropped their second South Coast Conference match of the season, falling 16-3 to Cerritos College on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons controlled the tempo from the start, pulling away with a strong second and third quarter to hand the Panthers the road defeat.
Cerritos built a 2-0 lead in the opening frame and extended the margin with five more goals in the second period. Chaffey broke through late in the half when Aubrey Castillo scored unassisted with 49 seconds remaining, sending the Panthers into halftime trailing 7-1.
In the third quarter, Sarah Alexander added another unassisted goal, but Cerritos responded with six goals in the frame to put the game out of reach. Elise Camarena capped Chaffey's final goal in the fourth quarter, while the Falcons added three more to close the match.
The Panthers will regroup and shift their focus to the Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27. Chaffey's opening game is against Crafton Hills College and is scheduled for Friday at 11:40 a.m.
