Chaffey Falls Short in Straight Sets Against Rio Hondo
The Chaffey College volleyball team came up short on the road Friday night, falling in straight sets to Rio Hondo College (25-11, 25-13, 25-17). Despite the result, the Panthers showed determination in long rallies and continued to build valuable experience early in the season.
Bria Love paced Chaffey's offense with seven kills to go along with 14 digs and two points at the net, while Lauren Medina added two kills, eight digs, and a service ace. Jade Serrano contributed two kills and a pair of block assists, giving the Panthers a steady presence at the net.
From the back row, Grace Hoang led Chaffey's defense with 11 digs and added a service ace. Setter Madalyn Ayers-Morris directed the attack with 10 assists while also recording six digs and a service ace. Collectively, the Panthers finished with 43 digs, three aces, and seven block assists, showing their defensive effort against the Roadrunners' persistent attack.
Though Rio Hondo capitalized on offensive runs in each set, Chaffey fought point for point in the third set, extending rallies and finding production across multiple players. The Panthers demonstrated hustle in transition play and flashes of balance between their attack and defense, signs of growth as the season moves forward.
The Panthers will return home on Tuesday, September 9, to host West Coast Baptist College at 5 p.m.
