Panthers Power Past the Coyotes in Four Sets
The Chaffey College women's volleyball team started the 2025 season on a winning note, defeating the Compton College Coyotes 3-1 on the road Wednesday night. Under the leadership of new Head Coach Haley Gomez, the Panthers controlled the match from the opening serve, taking the first two sets 25-10 and 25-10 before closing out the fourth set 25-17.
Chaffey's offense was balanced and efficient, led by Bria Love with six kills and 13 digs, while Jade Serrano added five kills and four total blocks. Emma Rhodes and Lauren Medina chipped in with four kills each, and Lailah Williams tallied four kills.
The Panthers also showed strength from the service line, finishing with 21 aces as a team. Madalyn Ayers-Morris led the effort with a match-high eight aces to go along with four kills and nine assists. Grace Hoang added four aces and 16 digs, while Natalia Frausto served three aces and nine assists.
On defense, Chaffey controlled the back row with 63 total digs, led by Hoang with 16 and Love with 13. At the net, Serrano contributed one solo block and three block assists, while Rhodes added a solo block and two block assists to slow the Coyotes' attack.
The win not only starts the season on a high note but also marks a successful debut for Haley Gomez.
The Panthers will return home to host Imperial Valley College in their home opener on Friday, August 29, at 5 p.m.
