Panthers Fall on the Road at Glendale, Turn Focus to Conference Opener at MSJC
The Chaffey College women's basketball team returned to the road on Wednesday night, falling 63-45 to Glendale College in a matchup defined by cold shooting stretches and second-chance opportunities for the Vaqueros. Despite a strong defensive fourth quarter and steady contributions across the lineup, the Panthers were unable to overcome Glendale's early scoring runs and rebounding edge.
Chaffey opened the game with active ball pressure but struggled to find rhythm offensively, averaging 34.85 percent in the first half and entering halftime trailing 40-23. Glendale capitalized on early perimeter efficiency and interior rebounding, using an 18-point first quarter and 22-point second quarter to build its lead.
The Panthers continued to compete in the third quarter but were held to seven points as the Vaqueros widened the margin. Chaffey answered with its strongest defensive frame in the fourth quarter, limiting Glendale to just eight points while generating turnovers and improving ball movement. Late baskets from Kamryn Ellis, Ambriel Harkins and Abby Hardy helped trim the deficit, but the early gap proved too much to overcome.
Danielle Singley led the Panthers with 12 points, four rebounds, two steals and a perfect 6-for-6 night at the free-throw line. Alexa Castricone added nine points and five rebounds while shooting 4-for-7 from the field. Hardy contributed eight points and five rebounds, and Thomas added four points and a rebound in 18 minutes. Chaffey's bench made a meaningful impact. Ellis recorded three points, three rebounds and three assists, while Harkins added five points on 2-for-3 shooting with two rebounds.
As a team, Chaffey shot 31.4 percent from the field and 14.3 percent from three, while Glendale countered with a 47.4 shooting percentage and a 33-24 rebounding advantage. The Panthers generated seven steals and 11 made free throws but were unable to match the Vaqueros' interior scoring and second-chance production.
The Panthers will now turn their attention to the start of Inland Empire Athletic Conference play, traveling to Mt. San Jacinto College on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m.
