Panthers Extend Win Streak to Four with Victory Over Fullerton
The Chaffey College women's basketball team continued its winning streak on Wednesday evening, earning a 78-70 home win over Fullerton College behind efficient scoring, balanced contributions across the lineup, and another standout performance from Danielle Singley. The Panthers controlled the pace for much of the contest and delivered timely plays on both ends to secure their sixth win of the season.
Chaffey opened the game with one of its sharpest first-quarter performances of the year, shooting 52.6 percent from the field and taking a 23-15 lead behind early scoring Alexa Castricone and Venezia Perez. The Panthers continued to generate high-quality looks in the second quarter, with Niyah Thomas knocking down shots from the perimeter and Abby Hardy adding steady production on the interior. Chaffey carried a 37-31 advantage into halftime after holding Fullerton to 31.8 percent shooting in the first quarter and a 37.5 shooting percentage in the second.
The Panthers pushed the margin further in the third quarter, erupting for 22 points on 66.7 percent shooting. Singley powered the run with strong finishes around the rim, while the team controlled the boards to limit Fullerton's second-chance opportunities. Chaffey entered the fourth quarter with a 59-44 lead.
The Hornets made their strongest push in the fourth quarter, scoring 26 points behind late perimeter shots, but the Panthers maintained composure. Timely rebounds from Singley, Hardy and Thomas, along with steady half-court execution, allowed Chaffey to close out the eight-point victory.
Singley continued her dominant stretch of play, leading all scorers with 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting while adding six rebounds, one block and one steal in 30 minutes. Hardy delivered a major impact on the glass, finishing with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Thomas added 13 points, six rebounds and two assists while shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Castricone turned in an efficient outing with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go along with three assists. Perez added 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in a steady two-way performance.
As a team, Chaffey shot 46.3 percent from the field 45.5 percent from three and 11-for-14 at the free-throw line. The Panthers scored 42 points in the paint, recorded 13 assists and generated 14 points off turnovers to maintain control throughout the contest.
The Panthers will now shift their focus to tournament play, traveling to compete in the Eagle Invitational at Mt. San Jacinto College on Friday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 6. Chaffey opens the two-day event against Irvine Valley College before closing out the weekend against Skyline College.
