Chaffey softball downs Golden West College
The Chaffey Panthers hosted the Golden West Rustlers on Wednesday and picked up a tough 4-2 win.
The Panthers jumped on the board in the first inning when freshman shortstop Nevaeha Tarin hit a 2-out single and sophomore third baseman Fernanda Cano followed with a 2-run home run.
The 2-0 score held through the top of the 5th, as freshman pitcher Sarah Hernandez masterfully induced routine ground outs.
In the bottom of the 5th, Chaffey doubled the score in the same fashion as the first inning. Tarin lined a 1-out single and Cano followed with a towering home run to center field for her second of the game, making it 4-0.
The top of the 7th provided some drama as Hernandez walked the first two batters of the inning and then Golden West plated a pair of runs before Chaffey finally shut the door for the win.
The Panthers improve to 9-6 on the season (and move up to #16 in the RPI rankings) and will travel to Bakersfield on Friday for a non-conference game.
