Chaffey Splits a Pair with Saddleback College

The Panthers traveled to Saddleback College on February 18 for a re-scheduled twin bill and came away with a split.

In game one, Chaffey jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning, thanks to a double by sophomore center fielder Lauren Chappell followed by an RBI single by sophomore third baseman Fernanda Cano.

Saddleback tied the score in the bottom of the 3rd and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning before breaking open the game in the 6th after two Panther errors.

Chaffey added one more run in the 7th on another Cano RBI.

Freshman left hander Sarah Hernandez took the loss, allowing just two earned runs and scattering six hits.

Game two was another tight affair, with both teams’ pitchers dominating.

Freshman Mia Britt tossed a complete game gem, striking out three and allowing just one hit on an infield single. The win was Britt’s first shutout of the season.

Chaffey got the only run they needed in the top of the 2nd.  Sophomore left fielder Rosyvette Garcia drew a 1-out walk and scored on a two-out single by freshman catcher Khila Estrada.

The split put Chaffey’s record at 8-6 on the season.
