Chaffey splits with Mt. San Jacinto to maintain one-game lead in IEAC
The Panthers traveled to Menifee for a huge doubleheader showdown with Mt. San Jacinto on Friday, winning game one 7-0 and falling 8-6 in game two.
Chaffey came in to the contests with an 8-0 conference record and MSJC sitting right behind at 7-1 (their only loss being a 4-3 game against Chaffey earlier in the year).
The Panthers jumped all over the Eagles in game one, playing a flawless game on both sides of the ball. In the first inning, Chaffey’s Lauren Chappell, Fernanda Cano, and Mia Britt smashed consecutive two-out doubles, giving the Panthers an early 2-0 lead.
Rosyvette Garcia drove in Sarah Hernandez in the top of the 2nd inning for a 3-0 lead and in the 3rd Sadie Schaefer knocked in Jadyn Bagwell for a 4-0 advantage.
The Panthers scored a pair in the 5th on freshman Micayla Arreola’s two-run single, plating both Allison Waite and Britt.
The final Chaffey run was scored in the 7th when Arreola picked up her 3rd RBI, scoring Khila Estrada, who had a pinch-hit triple.
Britt kept her perfect record intact, holding MSJC to just two singles on the day.
In game two, San Jacinto jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first inning on a pair of home runs.
Chaffey chipped away at the lead with a pair of home runs from Chappell and a solo shot by Cano. Nevaeha Tarin added 2 RBI’s on a double but ultimately the Panthers fell 8-6.
Chaffey holds a one-game lead in conference with five IEAC games remaining for each team.
