Panthers move to 5-0 in conference with DH sweep of Barstow
Barstow visited Chaffey in an Inland Empire Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday and the Panthers rolled over the Vikings in a 2-game sweep to stay all alone in first place.
In game one, Chaffey scored 6 runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Sophomore third baseman Fernanda Cano opened up the scoring with a bases-loaded double, scoring sophomores Lauren Chappell and Rosyvette Garcia-Pacheco and freshman Micayla Arreola.
Freshman Khila Estrada singled home another run, followed by freshman Mia Britt’s sacrifice fly RBI and freshman Makayla Enriquez’s RBI single.
Chaffey added three more runs in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings, highlighted by RBI doubles by freshman outfielder Raelene Diaz and freshman first baseman Jadyn Bagwell.
In the fourth inning, the Panthers finished off by scoring 4 more runs, making it 17-0, which stood as the final score.
Freshman pitchers Bryanna Ortega and Sarah Hernandez combined for the shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out six.
In game 2, the Panthers continued their dominance, rolling to another mercy-rule win, this time 10-0.
Six different Chaffey batsmen drove in runs, led by Hernandez with 2 RBI and Enriquez with 2 RBI.
Freshman pitcher Mia Britt picked up the win in the circle, tossing 4 innings while allowing just one hit. Hernandez closed out the shutout with a 1, 2, 3 inning in the 5th.
Chaffey is now 5-0 in IEAC competition and 15-7 overall. The Panthers are on the road next week with a conference game at Victor Valley on Wednesday and then a road trip with games at Moorpark and Santa Barbara on Friday and Saturday.
