Chaffey softball sweeps the doubleheader from Oxnard College

The Chaffey Panthers hosted the Oxnard Condors on Saturday, February 7 and came away with a pair of mercy-rule victories.

In game one, Chaffey jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, doing all the damage with two outs. Sophomores Lauren Chappell and Fernanda Cano hit back-to-back singles and then freshman shortstop Nevaeha Tarin smashed a two-run triple to start the rout.

Sophomore Rosyvette Garcia Pacheco followed with an RBI single and then stole second base. Sophomore catcher Allison Waite brought her home with an RBI single followed by an RBI by freshman Mia Britt.

In the second inning, the Panthers added four more runs on a 2-run Chappell double and RBI’s by Tarin and Waite to make it a 9-0 game.

Oxnard got on board with a run in the 3rd inning before Chaffey added one more in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman second baseman Delilah Perez picked up her first RBI of the season with a base hit, scoring freshman Khila Estrada, who had singled earlier.

Britt came on in relief of freshman starting pitcher Bryanna Ortega, tossing a scoreless 5th to close out the 10-1 mercy-rule win.

In game two, the Condors struck first, scoring two unearned runs in the first inning for the quick lead. 

Chaffey responded with two runs courtesy of a Cano single, who later scored on a passed ball, giving the Panthers the 3-2 lead.

In the 3rd inning, Chaffey tacked on two more runs on bases loaded walks (Tarin and Waite collecting the RBI’s).

The Panthers finally run-ruled the Cougars by scoring 5 in the bottom of the 6th inning, with freshman Makayla Enriquez and Garcia Pacheco both hitting two-run singles along with freshman Micayla Arreola collecting an RBI.

Freshman pitcher Sarah Hernandez threw a complete game for her first win of the season, allowing no earned runs, scattering five singles and striking out three.

The Panthers travel to San Diego for the upcoming weekend, taking on Southwestern College and San Diego City College in a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
