Panthers Open Season with 20 Goal Win
The Chaffey College men's water polo team delivered an explosive offensive performance for their 2025 season opener, defeating Santa Monica College 20-11 at the Aquatic Center. The Panthers used balanced scoring, sharp passing, and strong goalkeeping to secure their first win of the season.
Chaffey struck early and often, led by Vincent Garibay, who led the offense with a game-high eight goals and an assist. Parker Black added five goals and one assist, while Mario Nikolovski and Wendell McIntosh each contributed with two goals apiece. Baron Gonzalez served as a key distributor with four assists and a goal, while Aiden Kelley added four assists to drive the attack.
The Panthers dominated the second quarter, netting eight goals to build a commanding 13-6 halftime lead. Thomas Skaggs and Andrew Hinojosa also found the back of the cage, combining two goals and four assists, while Adam Kirkpatrick added two assists in transition.
Goalkeepers Nolan Hanson and Kirkpatrick split time in the cage, combining for 13 saves. Hanson turned away six shots in the opening half, while Kirkpatrick added seven saves in the second half to maintain control of the game.
Chaffey finished with 20 goals on 16 assists, showcasing efficiency in their frontcourt sets and finishing power plays with precision. The defense held strong in key moments, limiting the Corsairs' opportunities and maintaining composure through exclusions.
The Panthers will return to action at the Aquatic Center on Tuesday, September 2, when they host Cal Tech at 3:00 p.m.
