The Chaffey College men's soccer team turned in a commanding performance Friday afternoon, defeating Victor Valley College 8-0 at home. The Panthers scored four times in each half and displayed sharp execution on both ends of the field to remain undefeated in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.
Chaffey wasted no time taking control, with Alberto Gomez opening the scoring in the first minute off a setup from Diego Garcia. Moments later, Gomez assisted Ernesto De Lara in the 10th minute to double the lead. Garcia and Julio Martinez kept the pressure on for the remainder of the first half, with Garcia finding the back of the net in the 23rd minute on a pass from Martinez. Garcia then assisted Martinez in the 35th minute to make it 4-0 at halftime.
The Panthers kept up the pressure after the break. Martinez struck again in the 49th minute from a feed by De Lara, while Gomez tallied his second assist of the day on a goal by Alex Andrade Portillo in the 54th minute. Luis DeAnda added an unassisted goal in the 74th minute, and Jared Perez capped the scoring in the 79th minute with another solo finish.
Goalkeeper Fernando Monteon made seven saves to preserve the shutout and record his second shutout of the season.
With the win, Chaffey is now 2-0 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference. The Panthers will travel to Norco College on Friday, October 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
