The Chaffey Hustlin' Panthers opened the 2019 season last night with a 75-69 victory over the home team in the first round of the 2019 Dana Pagett Tip Off Tournament (Santa Ana College).
The Panthers trailed at halftime 37-33 and the Dons shot 50% from the three point line and out hustled the Panthers in the first half. The Santa Ana lead grew to 9 points in the second half when the Panthers went on their final run. The CHP outscored Santa Ana 15-5 in the final 6 minutes to take home the victory.
The CHP were led in scoring by their two BIG – LITTLE MEN #1 Darren Williams from Rancho Cucamonga HS (20 pts, 4/8 from the three, 6/8 ft's 4 rebs and 3 assists) and #11 Kristian Curl from Ayala HS who came off the bench for 17 pts (3/3's, 2/3 ft's, and 4 rebs). Aaron Johnson and Manu Oulai provided sophomore leadership and some big-time rebounds to close out the game.
The Panthers are back in action vs Santiago Canyon this evening at 7:30 pm in the finals of the Santa Ana Tournament.
