Panthers Split High-Scoring Series with San Bernardino Valley
Chaffey College’s baseball team played a three-game series against San Bernardino Valley College on March 31, April 2 and April 3, picking up one win along the way.
The series opened on March 31 with an 11-8 loss, where Chaffey rallied, but could not overcome a late surge from San Bernardino Valley.
Andrew Cuellar and Grant Price each recorded three RBIs, with Price adding a home run in the eighth inning.
The Panthers’ strongest performance came in a 15-12 win on April 2, powered by a 14-offensive effort and a five-run second inning that set the tone.
Cuellar reached base four times with two hits, two walks, three runs scored, and two RBIs. David Trujillo drove in three runs and Evan Salcido added three runs scored.
Pitcher Alejandro Preciado delivered six solid innings, allowing just two runs to earn the win. Despite a late push from San Bernardino Valley, Chaffey held on to secure the victory.
In the April 3 finale, the Panthers fell 5-3 despite a late ninth-inning push.
Trujillo led Chaffey with two hits and an RBI, while Robert Morales added a run-scoring hit as the Panthers pushed across two runs in the ninth inning.
Despite the series' results, Chaffey continued to show progress and will look to turn those efforts into results in the games ahead.
